Los Patios Hostel: Redefining the Medellin Hostel Experience

Experience

This hostel is located on a quiet street and is less than a 10-minute walk from the Poblado metro station and is also located within easy walking distance from Medellín’s largest nightlife area,  Parque Lleras. Also, its conveniently located a few blocks from a large grocery store and there are many restaurants nearby.

History of Los Patios Hostel

This hostel was the dream of four Colombian friends and investors. The partners saw the need in Medellín for a boutique and upscale hostel. Also, they saw the possibility to redefine the hostel experience by creating spaces and events that invite community building and sharing

Several years ago, the partners acquired land in the Manila barrio of El Poblado. To build the hostel they demolished two existing homes to build a five-story building which required nearly two years to complete. Los Patios Hostal Boutique opened in January 2017 with initially 65 beds in total as well as a rooftop bar, recreation room, herb garden, classroom and open kitchen.

Not long after the hostel opened, it opened a small gastronomic market — Manila Food Market — which was located in the hostel. This gastronomic market had only had seven small restaurants. So, this food market never became very popular except for the hostel guests and it closed in in August 2017 after less than a year.

This hostel become quite popular and started to experience full occupancy. So, across the street, it expanded with a second building, which opened in September 2018. This second building is known as Los Patios Suites and adds more dorm rooms, 19 private suites, another open kitchen, another rooftop bar and a gym.
